I have an interview tomorrow.

Mustnotpanicmustnotpanicmustnotpanicmustnotpanic.

Furthermore...the train will get me there LATE and I've only just realised this. In theory Thursdays are the early days for sprog to get picked up for nursery, but they may not show up on time, which means I'll miss the early train.

And...breathe woman just breathe.

Tomorrow

Wow, that's quick. They must know a good thing when they see one and want to snap you up before anyone else gets the chance.

Congrats Oya, everything is now crossed which is not only painful in my nether regions (should my gonads be able to do that?), but also makes typing a lot slower. Heck, you're worth it.

Routing for you
H

Thank you! I'm trying not to go into anxiety mode. I think it's going to be a Lush bath for me tonight!

When they describe the salary of the position, don't nod. Don't smile. Especially, don't speak.

If you must react, cut your eyes off to the side (don't look down) and allow a slightly pained expression to cross your face. Start counting to thirty inside your head. Long before you reach thirty, they will speak again.

This reaction will induce anxiety in the interviewer(s). If they want to hire you -- and they'll want to hire you -- they will wonder uneasily if they're paying enough to lure a wonderful person like you into working for them.

Then, you can begin to negotiate. Even if the pay is absolutely set in stone (which it rarely ever is, despite what people tell you) -- there are always negotiables.

Make a list of what you would like to have from the job outside of pay. Flexible hours? More weeks of paid vacation in your first year? Medical and/or dental and/or Rx coverage, other health benefits? Daycare costs? A nice corner office with furnishings you pick yourself? Clothing allowance? Travel costs? Free pens and office supplies? Write it down and don't be afraid to imagine.

Prioritize your list if you have time. Then you'll be able to say, calmly and with assurance, "this will help me make a decision. I am considering other offers."

Oh, never ever accept a job offer when it is made to you. Thank them sincerely and tell them you will consider it very seriously, and then tell them you will let them know by ____ hour -- tomorrow.

At which point, you can continue to negotiate. If they want you, they'll do everything within their power to bring you on board.

Good employees are a find. You are a find. They will want you to work for them. Make them earn you.

You'll walk in there strong and calm and sure on your feet tomorrow. Knock 'em dead.

Cheers OyaD,
-sbt, who has complete faith in you, as you entirely deserve

Thanks sweets. The one thing I really MUST have is hours which will allow me to get home to my son on time. There's nothing more heartbreaking for me (as I've done it in the past) than picking my son up at a completely empty nursery. I can't imagine what it must have been like seeing every child go home but him, even as young as he is and with his lack of understanding of surroundings.

I need to wash my interview outfit now, but thanks, I'll try and make a note of the things I have GOT to have for this job and I'll hope they can give it to me. I have decided however if I can't do this job, I'll apply for something part time with the company and then apply for the manager job at another time. I just want my foot in the door for now.

Much love.
