Quote by Jacques Lacan. He was of course a genius. Intellectual men are very sexy even if they're physically repugnant. Listening to him rabbit on in his brash didactic manner really turns me on. I couldn't find the quote in my moleskine but he also said something about the world being a place that only exists for our thoughts and fantasies. I watched a movie the other day - 'Certified Copy' - It was interesting ... It's a kind of middle-aged 'Before Sunrise'. Two strangers - a man and a woman meet in a small italian town, he's there to promote his book - the film title. They're attracted to each other, and begin to talk and act like a husband and wife, it's horrible to watch, falling into the same old stereotypes ... The book he'd written was elucidating that copies of art are important because they direct us to the original. However, the director lost his way with this theme, we ended up watching a pseudo-intellectual romance grow between the two protagonists with a predictable conclusion. I think the whole purpose of the human race is to 'bend' reality to suit our desires. I think that desire is the single core reason why we've created culture. Works of art - original or copies are totems for pleasure. The world is full of bad copies, terrible copies, trillions of disgusting copies that only degrades the original. Go to any provincial park and see the poorly executed rip-offs made with inferior materials. This doesn't exalt the original at all. Ask anyone that walks past, they can't see the difference between a great original and a poor copy. They don't care. The dialogue played safe with binary gender concerns. It could have been shot in the Middle Ages. So, the film played the Lacan game of interesting thoughts to amuse us for a while, to distract us, but that was ditched at the end for fantasy ... escaping reality again. He didn't want to know about her problems with her teenage son ... He just wanted to fuck her brains out. ... With Love V |

V-- I've missed you! ![]() I got a lot from this post. There was the joy to see you here. There was the joy of art, mixed with mixed feelings about cheap knock-offs. There was the joy of finding love. And, there was the joy of finding love only to discover that it is just a bad fling, which led to questions about whether that's all there is. Thank you! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

There will never be a copy of you... although... If I extrapolate that theme outward...this blog, this facsimile of your thoughts...led me to your mind. "In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act." ---George Orwell
