hey everyone. I finally found some time to blog. I'm not in the greatest of moods today. It's quite embarrassing to admit it, but i failed my drivers test for the sixth time today. yes six. The odd thing is that i know i'm not a bad driver. i get behind the wheel for my test, next to this guy who is compensating for something by making younger people feel like crap, and i choke and end up looking like i've never driven in my life. grrrrr very frustrating. what makes it worse is that my dad is mad at me cuz he's tired of wasting his time trying to help me pass this damn test. i just want to give up and figure out how to get through life without a drivers license but my dad says that nobody who doesnt have a drivers license can ever be successful. FUCK FUCK FUCK!!! ~A | ||

Amy, I am sure there are quite a few non-licensed, success stories out there. Some places discourage driving and we probably should too given the price of gasoline lately. Think of your driving test as you would any final exam. Take a deep breath and picture the examiner naked! LOL ~jackie ![]()

Jackie~ I think picturing these guys naked would cause me to burst into histerical laughter and drive off the road. Also, given my high level of testing anxiety, "any other final exam" makes me nervous as well and i tend to choke on those too. Thanks for the support and ideas though. ~A

Hmmm, maybe a different tactic is needed. What about treating it as if your Master/Daddy/Dr commanded you to achieve perfection. Demanding you succeed or you will be punished? Just another thought Anyway, i will keep sending positive thoughts and energy your way. Good luck i am sure you will accomplish this task soon. *hugs* ~jackie ![]()

Here's how to do it: Each time you failed, the tester must have told you exactly *why* you failed - failing to heed speed limit sign, not stopping for pedestrians, etc. Furthermore, I'd be willing to bet that the test is done within the same 6-8 block radius every time with a few variations. First, type out a numbered list of every single failure reason you can remember. Next, take a licensed driver and have he or she go with you and let you drive around that area for awhile. Say, 30 minutes or so a day, for a week or so, paying particular attention to the areas that made you fail the first time. The key here is friendly, calm reminders. Ideally you should have someone *other* than a parent take you, as many of them tend to nag and stress more than actually encourage and assist. Finally, take the test, and ace it. You'll be confident that you've fixed all of your major weaknesses, and you'll be more familiar with the driving area than your own neighborhood.

Thanks for the idea. Unfortunately, there's no practice allowed in the testing area since it is a closed course. My plan is to give it a year and then re-take the test next summer at a different location. ~A

Yes, Go to a different locale and just go in zooming with confidence. But like anything, practice makes perfect so ask dad or a friend to keep you in practice. But why wait a year? Do it as soon as you can and you are right - it gives you freedom. Don't let undue pressure rub off on you and focus on the task, not the taskmaster, or anything else. Afterall, driving is just being incredibly in the moment. Use your tools and you'll be fine. Best wishes, allen

Even if it's a closed, set course, the theory is still good - List your weaknesses, figure out a similar course (right turn, left turn, traffic merge, parallel park) and run it, with a couple variations, at least twice a week. If you genuinely feel that the testers at that particular center are biased or "out to fail you because of your age," it could have a psychological effect on your driving performance, whether they're biased or not, and trying a different driving location might give your confidence that extra boost you need to help you pass. I also agree that you should retake it as soon as you can - If you're worried about comments from the tester if you come back so soon, just go at a different time than your last test.(If you went in the morning last time, go in the afternoon for your next attempt) that way, it increases the chance that you'll get a different tester.
