Or, the death of customer service
Are there any companies who provide real customer service any longer? What ever happened to, The customer is always right? Day after day there are issues with the services provided by alt. People complain and they get standard route answers by the customer service reps. The reps never deviate from the pre-prepared, scripted answer. There rarely seems to be a concerted effort made to correct a problem. Customer dissatisfaction is compounded by a thinly veiled innuendo by the customer service staff that perhaps the customer was somehow at fault. The thing is that alt isnt alone in providing poor customer service. It has become the rule instead of the exception to the rule. The other day I placed an internet order for new cable, broadband, and phone service. I was then instructed to call to set up a time for installation. I put this off a bit because I suspected it would take some time and I had little of it. I then made the mistake of answering my phone while I was in the car heading to the mall to do some Christmas shopping. It was the cable company. I was on the phone for almost and hour with them. My shopping time disappeared. I had other things I needed to do and only had so much time I could devote to shopping that day. The rep put me on hold repeatedly while she attempted to enter some codes for some discounts or something. I found myself wondering what the point was of me placing my order on the internet. Hadnt all this already been taken care of? She repeatedly came back on the line to thank me for my patience and tell me it would just be a bit longer. Then she of course needed to do third party verification for the phone services. And there were problems with this. At this point I told her that I spent too much time on the phone with her already and I had no more time to give her. I suggested that perhaps when they place these calls to new customers that they should enquire if they have an hour to spend on the phone. At this point she tells me that new customers should know it takes time to set up a new account. They called me back a few days later to complete the third party verification. I completed it. It was a totally automated process and apparently did not go through appropriately because they called me again yesterday to repeat it. I was again trying to complete my Christmas shopping and told the guy it wasnt convenient for me. This whole third party verification bothers me any way. The reason for it is that communications companies had been inclined to change peoples phone services without their knowledge or consent. The third party verification is now necessary to ensure this hasnt happened. In other words, customers are being penalized because companies cannot be trusted to conduct business in a manner that is legal and moral. Is it any wonder that an internet site dedicated to the BDSM lifestyle cant be accountable to their customers when the banking industry, the US auto makers, and communication companies cant be trusted to be responsible and accountable to their customers?
