I think the books will have been better. The imagination can go further than a rater R movie that needs to appeal to the masses. Imagination is personalized - my fantasy, ideal Christian Grey character is the one who appeals to ME. He might look different for every woman who reads the books and imagines him, but once you pick an actor, then you are kind of stuck with him. To me, this is a lot like those vampire movies - pure and simple sexual fantasy in Hollywood. I am sure I will enjoy it, just as I enjoyed the books. It is soft porn, or "Mommy porn" designed to leave a lot to the imagination and not be so hard-core that it will turn off women. To me, its all just a lot of fun. I agree about the camera focusing on genitals not being very exciting, but this is focused on what she feels - looking at her eyes, looking at his eyes, feeling the rhythm of the background music as it swells in intensity...imagining how she must feel...its all good fun and I look forward to seeing it with my vanilla girlfriends and hearing their reaction. I am pretty sure it will not change the role of BDSM in the closet of society. Like the Story of O, it will come and go and just be another show to entertain and titilate.

Well, I like the idea (though perhaps different characters- still a controlled, tense Christian but perhaps not so "fairytale" rich for example), but found the execution to be poor in the books. I don't like the implication that bdsm participants have psychological issues and Ana's character annoyed me in many ways. BUT perhaps the movie might do better, and I did enjoy your take on it. I have to agree with your assessment of porn, maybe some porn with actual acting might be an interesting novelty.. haha. He asked if I wanted to see it.....I gave him a pedicure whilst watching Secretary. I think I had a much more enjoyable experience. Thought the books were horridly written so could only imagine the movie. Saw a trailer and simply will wait until I can get it from the $5 section. I do think lots of peoples got spankins on Valentines Day though. And for the most part, people in the "lifestyle"aren't really IN the lifestyle, they play at it...hence PLAY.
