If you do not have good taste and or a vision. Hire a decorator.but be prepared to not like what they do. Many decorators are dictatorial and impart their vision and taste. Be prepared to be amazed as many decorators will incorporate your ideas and go beyond what you had in your vision. Its a crap shoot.

I suggest moving in, keeping what you love and fits your vision. Add in things as time and your budget permit. When you first move it, it is still a house. In time, it becomes a home.

I have owned houses that became homes. And I have owned a home, that was akin to living in a hotel; it was pretty and functional, never a home. It felt at one point like an Albatross around my neck.

You have no choice.... you must do it yourself, your vision, your choices, your ego! It can take time, and then when finished just think of the satisfaction you will feel

(I like that you are sitting on the same chair I have here.... looks great, but not so easy to sit in or get out of of course!)

What is your taste in art?

I am a kitchen designer. I tend to pay more attention to function than just the appearance. I have run into way too many "designers" who are more concerned with appearance and what it does for their reputation than making a home comfortable and attractive to the home owner.

I have had the opportunity to redo two Frank Lloyd Wright houses. The kitchens in both were in bad shape. One spread out on three levels. It was not really salvageable unless the home owner was willing to lose some of the unique elements of the kitchen being put on three levels. So they are actually cooking out of the garage. The other one I did, and it maintained the character of the home and was very functional. The original 1949 appliances were still in the home. Had not worked for years. All cabinetry, flooring etc was replaced with more modern stuff.

I imagine the Barcelona is even more difficult to get out of when you have high heels on... so maybe a few less shoes for a while may be an advantage in more ways than one!

You have a wide and eclectic range already and I feel sure there are so many more you could add as you say, I wonder if you might be interested in an ongoing slow paced dialogue...
I had to look up de la Tour, as I was not familiar with his work, I find his paring down of tonality lends such a sense of calm to his images, so, pleased to be introduced to a new artist of such quality!
Interesting that you have photographs and prints, I have gone down that route due more to finances than less interest in painting. So now I am naturally curious as to what photographs and prints you have.
Wondering which warm city you are in in CA - can think of two contemporary artists I would like to suggest - you could see one in LA (should have a show this Spring) and another who shows in San Francisco... would you mind if I sent you a direct message via Alt with links? I understand if not, but don't think I should send links in a public forum such as here!

I find I have a core of artists I know very well, and they tend to have worked from the 1950s and on, so that is my starting point... any list, or distilling into a manageable amount is difficult (think moving home!), so I can imagine your editing as you replied, and thank you for taking such care. I look forward to artful discourse with you very much. Take your time, you have so much else to do at the moment - we can start art tawk at some point following your move!
