An acrotomophile, is a person who is aroused either by having sex with an amputee, or fantasizing about it. Acrotomophiles sometimes can convince a consenting partner to wrap a hand or foot in bandages. People may become attracted to amputees for a variety of reasons. Those include vicarious sadism, low self-esteem, a legitimate excuse for poor performance, a need to rescue and fear. Clubs exist that provide introductions or referrals for amputees, and literature exists that provides written materials and photos.
