Yep. It sucks. Believe me; I was more surprised than ANY of you were when it showed up, because the ad didn't fly on A F F which IS geared for hookups. I've taken it to Management. The move was to shift the verbiage to "Get Your Fetish Serviced." I explained why a "fetish" can't be "serviced" and clarified that this still missed the point: that it is not integral to the basic RACK / SSC tenants of BDSM to advocate casual fucking and promises that casual fucking is to be obtained here. I thought "OK, this ad is so blatant...people won't respond." And you know what? The numbers are in: people are signing up for it. The percentages are kind of amazing. It is hard for me to argue with numbers. I mean, people complain, sure. People threaten to leave. For years. Some of the most vocal detractors are the same people who stick around anyway, complaining but remaining. That doesn’t impress upon the Money People here that this type of campaign doesn’t "work." ALTfolk talk about not renewing memberships, rail against the unreliable balky system, and cluck their tongues knowingly that "people are leaving." Well, they aren’t. I WISH I had hard numbers to say "Look, you don’t take care of the customer, they won't stick around." but people DO stick around. It is interesting, to me, how many people complain about how shitty things are / have been / continue to be. And I'm one of the Old Schoolers; I have, cumulatively, 12 years on ALT. I, too, have seen the wonkiness. But the illusion of the good old days is just that. Some shit ain't gonna change. I have to suck that up. Some stuff, Well, I do what I can. Like explaining that, despite the fact that some people are answering this ad by putting up their Money...enough to spike enrollments...that the cumulative effect is NOT positive. Well. I’m doing what I can. And, for that, the thanks I get is accusations of rigging the whole thing, being a tool of the man, a puppet for the "In clique” and a power-mad porn whore. FYI, I only did that one scene in that one porn, so I don’t think that counts  Anyway, yeah. Sorry for my first post in ages to be non-personal, but it kind of is. I’ll keep you posted if there is any movement on this campaign.  Mollena

It is great that the enrollment numbers are being spiked by this most recent ad campaign. What is not so great is the implication that everyone is here to get laid. I already get nasty, whiney mail saying I should not be a member here because I am not available, not here for a hookup, or to get laid. That my profile is deceptive because it states I am "looking for" whatever- [The only choices ALT offers me to tick off to have an account.] In the past I had suggested that the option- I am looking for- "friendship of like minded members" or something similar be added to the list of choices to tick off. Now with this new advert I suggest there be the option of using a visible icon that notates "I am not here to get laid, so do not bother wasting your points, time, or effort, on me.  This new pop up is defamation of my character. It infers that I am here to get laid. I did not desire to upgrade my account in order to upgrade my sex life. ALT offers no option to tick off stating otherwise. So, yes, my profile is deceptive. I have no other choice if I want to have a membership here. At least give members an option to tick off, an icon to notate, stating otherwise if that be the case... I thank you for your effort, for being our voice of reason.

I'm sorry you end up taking such heat over this kind of stuff. I think it is because before MO.... alt personnel were nameless, faceless entities.... and now... well we have you. For newcomers and not so newcomers. Arm yourself with knowledge

thanks for a great post, mo, and for all you do to help keep this community's meeting place running more smoothly. it's sad that anyone would give you grief and i hope you know how many appreciate all your efforts. fwiw, the "view all" buttons and so many other links are not working any more. do you know why and/or how long it will be before they fix it? thanks, again!

sure people stay,but do they renew their paid membership or just down shift to standard memberships. I see fewer gold and silver balls among the old timers these days. The grow or die theory of business as applied here leads to dilution of the qualities that attracted many to the site to begin with. People become disillusioned,and stop paying. This in turn gives rise to the need for an influx of new members. Further diluting the alternative character of the site. Eventually this place will become as mainstream as facebook,and the most alternative members will be an elderly,straight acting,republican gay couple in an ltr who only have sex every other Friday night,but do attend church three days a week. ...and they'll be standard members! hey not for nothin',but the people who talk the most smack about you are often the problem,and never a solution to the BS around here...just sayin'.

If you would seriously like to improve the functionality of the site, I am glad to help. There are several things that can be done which will improve the relevance of the searches and interactions. While people may stick around, that does not always have to be the case. Many are here just because other alternatives have not taken hold... and while Alt may be the biggest around learn from the Vanilla world and there was a company that had a stranglehold on the Video Rental market. There name was Blockbuster, and they treated their customers like crap because they were the biggest, they put the smaller mom and pops out of business, but then came along Netflix. Blockbuster may still be around, but they have had their balls handed to them. I contemplated posting them, but then again I have also contemplated selling them to either you or one of your competitors. What I do know both from my own experience as well as marketers like Brian Tracy and Jay Abraham, information that is given for free is never used or valued as much as information paid for. I am no longer a paying member. I am not a whining non-paying member. I think the site should convert to paying members only. I saw this on an AL post I am banned from. (LTB3) >>>>>Even this demeaning outrage has inspired but 9 comment on Mollena's blog,inclueding my own. Cant see his comment here. Then I saw this on the same post; >>>We need to form our own site, control creative content. We also need to write on every consumer complaints and advocacy forums just how the zombie accounts at FriendFinder networks are committing credit card fraud on a daily basis and then hide offshore to circumvent prosecution. Any truth to this? Doesnt this cross the line of libel? Have a great day.

Ah Mo, don't let this latest round of hooey get ya down! Just the monkeys trying to make money and on some level all of us are aware that this is the reason they are here. I don't like the new slant but as I'm a paying member, I don't have to look at it daily either. But there is some small case to be made that this is a sex site whether or not folks want that to be so...most just don't wanna hear it. I mean really how many came here hoping the learn more about perfecting their knitting with the pearl stitch...or to learn more investment strategies...seriously? Yeah, I get it for many here there is a whole lot more to it and I'm one of them...but even I know we've gotta take the bad with the good. Good Luck with the Monkeys! babypeach

I noticed today that your old post bit of this, bit of that... has acquired the text corruption issue that keeps popping up. Thought I'd mention it to you.  I have no thoughts on "get laid". Marketing... Member retention is the #1 neglected issue, to me. Thank heaven the blogs are alive because the female profiles are a depressing fucking graveyard to browse. Good thing I only write to bloggers. The site has to have actual women want to be here, (as someone wrote). The randomness of the message system and it's accumulation of undocumented rules makes leaving this site easy. Evidently my "asshat" signature was deleted . . . . That ever happen to you? *Carry Onnnnnnnnnn *Flash. News.
