my friend said he could get Dead tickets for the both of us at buckeye lake for the fall of 1994 so we could see the band for the first time.. i said i shouldn't. i need to save my money for my move to minneapolis and when i go see the Dead i want money for the good "treats" and t-shirts etc, ill go next year. yeah well r.i.p. jerry. to this day i still havnt seen any of the guys perform. i have seen phish several times, even went to the 1999 new years eve show in florida with my gf at that time. i havnt had a good "jam" in years and i only wore bells once. side note. in 1995 while living in minneapolis hanging out my by best friend, she and i had some good "treats" and we walking around in a park, we followed the sound of drums, as hippy minded people do and we stumbled onto the candle light vigail for Jerry. It was incredible. someone handed us candles and we danced and sang and tripped and jammed all night. we excused ourselves from the circle for a short time to re "treat". walking back to the group and the drums, a very old asian couple(him dressed in a nice black suit and tie, her dressed in a simple, but classic black dress) were walking beside us and asked what was going on with the group in the park. we told them of the man that died and his magical rock and roll band that inspired milions through love. peace, joy. and song (and "TREATS"). they had no idea who the dead or jerry were but felt they should honor his memory along with us. we handed them our candles and they joined the circle for well over an hour. though i never got to see the band, im pleased with the memories of them i do have. your note brought that time back to my mind and i thank you once again for being here in this place.

peace and blessings to you and as always
feel the love

I miss going to blues festivals in California. Outdoor concerts are rare in this neck of the woods.

I know I have avoided talking to friends when I have had a hard time health wise or otherwise. but then, I find talking to them helped me move along in life.

Wanted to see the Dead when Bruce Hornsby was touring with them.Never got a chance. Still never saw the dead.

Enjoy the Dead in Chicago! Been going to Dave Matthews Band concerts since I was a young impressionable freshman in college. Headed back to Alpine Valley again this year to catch my jam band for a 2 night weekend. Got to thinking about my favorite line of theirs...

"I'm not all bad, but I'm a faithful sinner,
I might get lost but I'll be home for dinner" - Spaceman

Got to thinking about your previous post about Dove sayings and of course... I had to steal one or two or 4 at work today. "Be the first on the dance floor... Love Dove" - Probably more suitable for you than I... but I'll sit back and watch.

Off to Firefly Music Fest next weekend. Cannot wait! Cheers!

Glad you enjoyed. Not sure why that lyric resonates with me so much. I suppose we all try to make the world a better place... But then we all have our vices. Me its x and you its z. They don't necessarily hurt others... but are generally frowned upon by the masses (or a vocal minority). I figure if we are to make it through this crazy thing called life why not enjoy? Right? In the end... we all try to get back to where we mean/want to go... I just like to take the scenic route.

I do my best to get out. I will travel for music. After all, I do live in BFE Iowa. Best music we get during the summer is 70s, 80s, and 90s bands that are hanging on. Admittedly, I just saw Colin Hay (Men at Work), Violent Femmes, and the Barenaked Ladies and I'm proud of it. lol Otherwise, its a trip to Chicago, the Twin Cities, KC, or St. Louis.

This will be my 2nd time @ Firefly. No camping for me. I'm too old for that shit! lol Will hit Vegas in late September for "Life is Beautiful" Fest... 5 Star hotel and a Cabana will wait for me the Monday after...sometimes you just need a little sun... and alcohol to recover!

Unfortunately, work is keeping me from seeing Thursday's line-up. But I plan on hitting it hard the rest of the weekend. Sylvan Esso and Modest Mouse are on my list, will be my first for both. I'm not so sure Morrissey will actually play (he's been awfully flaky and they will be serving meat all over the place, lol). Joe Pug has 2 sets? One must be acoustic... might have to try and fit him in the schedule on your recommendation. Matt and Kim are awesome... saw them in Vegas last year... I cannot wait especially with the new album. Cold War Kids are actually really early in the afternoon on Sunday. I will not miss them!! This will be the 4th time I've seen The Killers. Listen to me... I'm not really a "one-upper" kind of guy. Geesh.. I'm actually really excited to see Foster the People again... just trying to weigh my options as I have a connection through work who's bf does the lighting for them... can I get myself backstage or not? Terribly un-ethical for my job... but I'm still debating...(I'm not all bad... but a faithful sinner...")

All this "Love, Dove" stuff has me cracked up. Makes me think back to my lifeguarding days and all of the Laffy Taffy jokes. They were oh so horribly bad... you had to laugh at 2 out of 7. "What's a sea monster's favorite snack? Ships and dip You get the idea

Enjoy and have fun at work doing what you love to do!! I'll have to give you an update when I get back on how Firefly went. I must say... I expect to see lots of that kind of dancing! Again... I'll just watch and enjoy the music... and the view! Cheers

While goodness knows I've enjoyed so many bands over the years, I haven't seen too many live, except Rush, who I've seen 4 times. The rest have been mostly onesies, like Asia, George Michael (I was escorting 3 ladies, so I'm excused LO, Janet Jackson, Boston, Sammy Hagar, Yes and other, but I have to admit it's usually the local ska bands that always made me want to move. I don't rightly know who I'd like to see in a stadium, if anyone. There's a lot of bands I'd have loved to have seen, but haven't, including Jerry and the Dead.

I'd like to see Alabama Shakes & The National, among others too, but am currently trying to pay stuff off so entertainment's limited at the moment. I even have slowed down on my formerly heavy CD and DVD/BD buying, just to try to get stuff to be free and clear.

I love your saying! It's quite true and I feel you'll be the seed that blossoms well and continuously!

    Quoting  :

Actually, I'd love to see The Killers and Modest Mouse on the same ticket. My Sis made fun of me for liking Tom Jones like our Mom does and I said watch this special with me about him playing Cardiff Castle in Wales. The man is a serious musician who has soul and isn't afraid to take risks with what he does and the most important thing to him is putting on a great show for the audience. He thinks the whole panty thing kind of cheapens it now, not like the early days when someone threw a pair up when he was sweating profusely on stage.

Oh I've known some VERY serious female RUSH fans! One I used to work with that had a denim jacket with their logo on back that was her pride and joy. She was so tall and slender with honey blonde hair and such lovely nutmeg colored arm hair that made her seem almost angelic... . Then there was a girl I dated who always said she wanted to marry Neil Peart one day (sometimes Geddy Lee). Even after she got married later she always attended all the Rush concerts she could, even taking her boys to them, until they finally revolted on her. Usually you either love them or hate them though apparently. Good thing they aren't my only musical choices - 2,000+ pieces of vinyl & somewhere over 400 cds and counting I think at the moment

i hadnt even heard of trampled by turtles (or most of the bands you mention for that matter) until your comment. you are very music minded and i tend not to seek out much new music, even less so as i get older. every new friend and new girl friend always hand me a new band here or there. the last few "new" bands i have picked up robert randolf, john butler, and sam bush. thanks as always for keeping me in your loop

you asked if i knew the band trampled by turtles. do not. you know SO much more music than i do. i have never been too good at seeking out new music. every new friend or girl friend will always turn me on to a new group or two, but as i get older i look around for new stuff less and less often. the last few new bands i have found were john butler trio, sam bush and robert randolf, but im sure you already know at least two of those. smiles and blessings to you!
