Me thinks, and a complete shot in the dark here. Perhaps as TGD is quite content with the outer garments he already owns, he is tempted, oh so tempted as pointed out by his nightly visits to add to his collection cannot find the exact characterization this one would fall into. As pointed out by the arctic weather one, suede one and so on...Or not.

great post none the less, thank you.

Glad you liked the post, but not clear at all what your explanation is. Would you care to elaborate?

Thanks for visiting.

yeah I wondered a bit off track as to where I was going with it too.

I mostly think it might be a case of where it would fit in with what is already owned. Referred to only as a winter coat, with no other details, material or style wise. Each other garment is detailed to it's use, when and where. where does this one fit?

I'm sure this is just as muddled as my first comment and for that I apologize.

Well, first, perhaps: yeah I wandered a bit off track and wondered as to where I was going with it too. As I sometimes say in the studio: I liked that bit. Sometimes I go to write something here and it just ends up in the weeds. I have a naming convention to handle these attempts. Other times it magically happens. This notion about coats has been bugging me for a while, and then Mr. Watson graciously appeared to tell the story, and things just fell together.

As to the larger point, certainly valid, but for - ahem - Mr. TGD, that thought process would only activate once he actually bought the coat. Gee, where am I going to fit this in? But what he is experiencing is more primal, being drawn to coats like a moth to a flame. Passing strange.

I appreciate that you circled back and offered more on your conceptions.

Two theories! Excellent.

Yes, I was waiting for a female to arrive and offer up a shoe parallel. Shoes. Do you know aHedonist? He lovingly refers to all women as shoe whores. And - ahem - Mr. TGD's singular sequence of events is more like a woman just detouring in midstep to the shoe department. But with women, we know the cause of this: they are women. With Holmes' client above? A mystery.

As for a coat for a naked young lady: true or not, I like that one. Well done. You win a double chocolate brownie and 93 minutes with shoes in Neiman Marcus.

Being a good friend of Mr. TGD, though impressed by your theory, I am simply too frighted respond further.

Extremely sound advice, both for Mr. TGD, and for this humble correspondent as well. I bequeath you a long weekend with a redhead of your choice: either Emma Stone or Amy Adams. May all your babes be wet and willing.

In a perhaps unrelated and yet superficially similar situation I find myself relating to Mr TGD's perculiar circumstance. I am of late contemplating a Theremin, for no reason that I am able to discern beyond the possibility of having one solely for the purpose of having one: an unusual situation for this humble correspondent to be in. I do not know when or where this strange affliction arose beyond that it is recent and compelling. Being of a personality that rarely gives primacy to mere whim I am resolved to yet wait a while in the chance that this is but a passing fad.

I am however cognizant of - and would ask you to convey such to Mr TGD - the philosophy of Sophipet that might perhaps - in the way of a fortune cookie - apply to this situation: "Just buy the dammed shoes"

Add that, I too am in pursuit of a theremin. But I do have a use for it on one project.

Having interviewed Mr. TGD about your very situation, I can safely say that:
1)he firmly believes you should buy a Yamaha Digital Piano with mechanical keys and pair it with digital foot pedals,
2)in addition, he said to tell you "Dude, have you seen the picture of Boris Karloff (as Frankenstein) with his Theremin? One look and you'll be buying."
-- and --
3)... sometimes, the shoe whores have great wisdom.

The world has a hopeful profile, the Clinton Crime Syndicate is vanquished. Invest in yourself, one way or another.

{ Your bright eyes see clearly: no, I do not have a raincoat. }

A very pleasant and comforting reply.
The small personal narrative about your own coat behavior is of course bittersweet.
All the best, and Merry Christmas.
