being nice today..decided to give some car advice

Hi all,

I thought I would be nice today and save you from my rant about car repair...after all the bs it did turn out to be the motor mounts ( yeah ford focus at only 116,000 miles)..

So I chopped out all the bullshit from my blog.....but decided to leave in the car buying advice/figured it might actually help someone

Be smart when you buy a car...look at websites like msn.com ( I know who the hell would have thought to look there)
They have a car section that will tell you the major problems of cars in various brands through out the years.
( unfortunately for me there was no mention of motor mounts going bad...but it did list recalls/defects in things like engine/tranny/steering components etc.
In my example they said the ford focus' engine was crap in 2001, but then they finally got it right in 2004. That info alone is GOLDEN...the major reason most cars end up in scrap yards is the engine or the tranny.
The site will also give you pretty good blue book value on a car and what others in your area reported buying one for. It gives you a great idea of what you should be paying/ or expect to be paying for that car.

Once you set your sites on a brand and type of car, go on youtube and type in repair and your car's name ( say ford focus...just see how many videos are listed....hell the ford focus had alot of vids on motor mounts..that should have been a red flag)

I'd also suggest you hop on a forums board for your car manufactures ( just type in ford forums on google etc)...type in your car and you will see all the threads...the ford focus had a shit load of them about the motor mountslt;
Ford owners aren't shy about complaining..lol.
The guys on these forums are super helpful too..probably the best source for finding out what is really wrong with your car

Finally never buy a car from someone that won't let you take it to a mechanic first..for like 50 bucks they will do a complete inspection on the car. You'd be surprised the amount of things that they can find when they have a car up in the rack.
Hell they told me my pass brake hose ( on the ford focus) was miss routed/rubbing and probably will leak on me within the year.
Then you can present the seller with this info and get the price down.
