In a way I understand you ... I'm protective, too!
BUT
I'm afraid there are a thousands of Afghan and Iraqui civilians
who had NO intention to hurt someone..... ever,
who lost beloved ones, too. ...... because of someone's boots trying to kick some ass
And they won't forget either.
And that's how violence always leads to MORE violence
and the main reason why you are less safe than ever before.

Finally an American Predident, who is cautious when it comes to military actions,
is a very very good thing from my point of view.

Who suggested that you should forget?

Who said we're safe?

Many people lost family and friends in the WTC as well as on the hijacked jetliners that day. Many people also lost family and friends during the wars that followed 9/11. Myself included. I've attended too many wakes and funerals over the last thirteen years. No one can claim a monopoly on loss, grief and mourning in the years since September 11, 2001.

Yes, a very small number of Americans have been beheaded. And over the last ten years the USA has, by conservative estimates, killed hundreds (and maimed thousands) of civilians -- including men, women, and children -- via "surgical" drone and cruise missile strikes in countries other than Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm sure their families, friends and loved ones won't forget either.

Fear hasn't held us back from killing. Fear, it seems, causes some to call for more killing.

As for me: I refuse to live in fear, just as I refuse to hate.

I remember now.

    Quoting  :

Then I'm not sure what you were calling for when you wrote the following:

"I'm of the opinion we need to put a new boot up someone news ass......

A BIG American boot.......followed by a big British boot and then ALL nations that love living free need to put their boots in as well....

I may be a bit blood thirsty........but sometimes SOMETIMES you need to hit first and ask questions later.....

Americans are being beheaded.......... BOOT UP THE ASS........PERIOD"

That, to me, doesn't read like a call for diplomacy.

We're already conducting airstrikes in Iraq (and we'll soon be conducting airstrikes in Syria). We're deploying several hundred more military personnel to Iraq. ( During the late 1950s and early 1960s we would have referred to them as "military advisors". )

What other actions / options would you suggest that the administration take / pursue?

I remember now.

Not that I would EVER excuse the actions brought about by ISIS, al-Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, the PLO, or any militant fundamentalist group of any religious stripe, but one of the things this country needs to do to keep safe in the world is to stop poking rabid dogs with a stick, which is what the U.S. has been doing in the Middle East since the early part of the 20th Century, exponentially increasing with the founding of the Israeli state after WWII.

In the interest of keeping the crude flowing and the oil barons rich, the U.S. has been militarizing and supporting some of those who have committed the most horrific atrocities against their own people. When desperate, oppressed people see our government helping to put and keep monsters like the Shah of Iran, Saddam Hussein, the House of Saud, Bashar al-Assad, Hosni Mubarak, and the Taliban (via the Mujahideen) in power, is it any wonder there is such vile hatred for our country? Time and time again, the U.S. has backed corrupt and insidious despots and dictators for the economic advantage of a few...and we have paid dearly for it. Add in our failures to muzzle Israel's attacks in Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, and Syria with our military hardware, and it's no wonder they want to kill us all.

I believe there is only one way for the U.S. to "win" the war on fundamentalist Islamic terror: fuck the petroleum industry, and throw everything we've got into researching and implementing alternative energy sources that will make us independent from the rest of the world. With no economic interests to protect, we can finally get the hell out of there for good and let them kill each other for the few spoils that will remain.

What if America didn't exist. What would be the moral leadership, and from what country would it come from. I truly believe even with many faults of this country, the world would be a whole lot different, and not in a good way. The U.S. has done some WTF. things that have gained it some bad reputation around the world, and admonishment from even its allies. I again say what if, and pose who would be the one country others look to, and rely on when the shit hits the fan. Who would be the barrier standing between chaos, tyranny, and keep in place a force to deal with any attempt for world dommination? What other country would replace, and be a becon of hope to the masses that needed a place to flea oppressive governments, and regan hope for themselves? What country would have written in their constitution the first three words WE THE PEOPLE, and have a Declaration Of Independance with the words in it ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL? What country would have, and accept the many cultures, it would need in order to replace this countrys heritage of different ideas... which were brought on by the freedoms they fought to have, and keep. I believe there would still be the same bad elements in the world if their wasn't an America...BUT who would stand up to them, and as Katie put it put a big boot up their ass? P.S. Katie I hope I didn't distract from your post...I only wanted to add to what you said.

I think you should have left it. People feel different ways when they look at the topic and its history. You have every right to feel your own way about the subject.

Katie I wanted to say I'm glad you wrote your feelings on this topic, and it is what I needed to say my peace in support of it. I stand by what I wrote, and feel as you, that people have a right to open and thoughtful comments no matter there opinion. Take care.
