"Swedes, Norwegians and Danes remain on amicable terms; they trade, co-operate and visit each other socially any time they like. They don't need a pompous, blustering state called Scandinavia, informing them from Stockholm how wonderful they all are, but (kind of) only really meaning Sweden." - novelist Irvine Welsh.

From: "The Scottish referendum in quotes : The 25 best quotes from the Scottish referendum campaign so far" The Daily Telegraph ( U.K. ) 17 September 2014

    Quoting  :

It would be more accurate to call it the will of the majority ( 55% of voters ) that voted no. It certainly isn't the will of the significant minority ( 45% of voters ) that voted yes.

The issue of independence versus union hasn't been permanently settled. The process of Scottish home rule / devolution has accelerated over the last seventy years, but it hasn't managed to quench the desire for an independent Scotland. Expect the resurgence of pro-independence sentiment to remain strong among the youth of Scotland. In twenty or thirty years this issue might be revisited.

Being independent in one's heart is a painful reminder that one isn't truly independent.

I remember now.
