I thought it was OK. Not a favorite that I'll likely revisit again, but I found it compelling because Hugh Glass was a real person. While pieces of the story were certainly fictionalized, the basic story of Glass' attack from a grizzly bear, his incredible 200 mile, six week trip to Fort Kiowa, crawling much of the way, and his pursuit of John Fitzgerald (Hardy's character) actually happened.

One major change the movie made concerned the fate of Fitzgerald. It took Glass significantly longer to find him than it did in the movie, and Glass ended up sparing Fitzgerald's life because Fitzgerald had joined the Army, and killing him would have brought reprisals. Glass died six years later in an attack by Arikara warriors, the same tribe who nearly killed him in the movie.

I agree...the movie is a shell of the real life story...but apparently a real life story of a man doing the same feat isn't that exciting?

I am also against gratuitous amounts of violence unless it is done by quentin tarantino ..and it is even worse when it is done to animals. Hell at least give the animals some m16s. you know Quentin would

Sure the guys are pretty but they have that matt mcconaughey vibe about them...sure you wouldn't mind snuggling with them BUT you know damn well that they don't use deodorant..lol.

In this case these dude would have major league man funk on them....if you want a similar experience just go up to any major truck stop and take a whiff...you have dudes on the road that haven't showered in a week +
and hell they aren't even fighting bears..

The movie sorta reminds me of disaster flicks when the female lead is kicking ass/taking names but never sweats and her makeup is perfect...( think hunger games)

I've not seen it but friends have recommended it. I'm not really into all the violence but I might have to watch it just because.

Watched it on the way to Los Angeles. I was rather disappointed. The bear scene was spectacularly done. Other than that it seemed like many scenes from other movies stitched together to make something mediocre. I didn't connect with any characters and never felt any sympathy for any of them.

I then watched The Dressmaker which was Wonderful and promptly forgot about The Revenant.
