I'll sleep when I'm dead, I suppose

Here’s my schedule lately:

8:50pm - wake and prepare for work
10pm to 6am - work graveyard at the gas station
7am to noon - take a nap
noon - wake and prepare to go to the library
1pm to 6pm - use internet at the library for various purposes
6pm - return to the halfway house
7pm to 8:50pm - take another nap
Repeat

As you can see, I’m not quite getting 8hours of sleep most days, and even if I do, it’s not 8 consecutive hours, which is apparently what you need to stay healthy, at least mentally. On my days off, I generally sleep from midnight until 10am, if I can manage it, but my roommate snores loudly, so it’s not always easy. I generally get up at 10am, do the whole library thing until 6pm, and then stay up until midnight so I am as tired as possible, and will hopefully sleep through the snoring. My days off are actually rare though, as people at my work keep calling in sick, or injured, or just plain uninterested in coming to do their job. That means more hours, more money, and more time away from the halfway house, which is exactly how I like it. In a place where overtime is forbidden, I am the only guy getting it, because I’m reliable, and the majority of the graveyard crew is not. I also agreed to begin pumping gas recently, which is something I swore I would not do when I took the job at the gas station, but it has helped me immensely. I work more, and sleep less, but I can catch up on that when I move back to Portland maybe.

My tentative plan is to return to Portland on or about May 5th or 6th. Payday is on the 5th of that month, and it’s a weekend, so I hope everything works out as I want it to. If I have to spend another month at the halfway house, and pay for it, I don’t know how I’ll feel. It’s a miserable experience, so the thought of spending money to remain there, no matter how cheap it might be, is just plain offensive. But I am straying from the subject a bit, aren’t I?

I am pretty damn tired most days, but actually getting used to it. When sleep comes it is deep, but brief, and when my alarm goes off I kind of have to drag myself out of bed. The benefits are showing though. My new store/studio on Clips4Sale has close to 20videos in it, and I am well on my way to earning a bit of extra income that way. I am also getting regular exercise, riding back and forth to the library a minimum of five days a week, which is showing up on my legs and ass quite nicely. Being away from the halfway is the biggest benefit by far. I almost want to say that the atmosphere there is as unhealthy as prison, but I’m not sure that’s the case. The ability to escape it is probably the only reason I would say it isn’t as volatile as being incarcerated. The freedom to simply walk out the door, choose my own food, and things of that nature are also obvious benefits I can’t ignore. I’m complaining, but not too much. Considering where I could still be stuck, I have little to complain about, and would feel silly doing so. It’s time to count my blessings, and take the bad with the good. Sleep, privacy, peace and quiet - these things will come in time. Just six more weeks, and I hope to achieve all three at once.

Who needs sleep anyways? I’ll forgo it now, and sleep when I’m dead I guess.

Check out the sleepytime bedtime calculator. It helps your body sleep in cycles which is more beneficial when you can't get in 8 hours. http://sleepyti.me/
