Hardest thing I ever did (and regret) was putting down my favorite dog. Best advice I could offer is err on the side of life. Don't end something because you can't bear to see them this way. End it because you can't imagine the pet wants to be this way. "Still responds to my love" seems a good clue as to what she wants. One thing I am certain of, the days ahead with "my old girl" will be your most cherished memories of her.

Sorry you have to go through this trial.

There is always a balance between love and power. We love our animals and have the power to extend their lives far beyond what nature offers them and we want them to be with us. We want them to provide confirming echoes of the moments that made us love them.

You're right. It's a shame that they can't tell us what they want. I hope you find everything you need.
