I think it is a matter of definitions - how long is long term? As long as we wish to make it but I agree, it really means wanting to be with that person or persons for the rest of your lives.....

A wonderful thoughtful topic!

A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing. George Bernard Shaw

I have neither been married, or had a lasting relationship, but I speak of what I saw from my parents marriage. I grew up in a household where my parents saw their 40th anniversary come, and another 15 years go by before my dad passed. I could be wrong but it seems generational, and the generation of my parents, and their parents before them used a relationship as a temporary promise before marriage, and seems they took it alot more serious than the generations that came after. I believe as my parents through good, and bad time till death do us part. I think people aren't able to handle the stress of the good with the bad, and give up a little to quickly, and excuses come easier. Thats my thought I could be wrong
