I understand exactly how you feel! A marriage Certificate means nothing! It is the actions that count!

That said, I do understand how some gay couples may wish to wed and I firmly believe THEY should have that right too!

G.... There is a certain rationale to Tam's assertions.

Were that it was always so simple.

It can get more complicated?

Sure. Just for one example, throw a child into the equation. One can simplify 'marriage' easily..... Go down to the lake and pledge yourself to one another. Go back when the marriage ends and have your higher power determine child custody.

You're so cynical...

What works in one isolated situation is vastly different from the overall legal realities of a marriage.

What about property, investments and other assets?

So now you want to compound the problems that will surface?

I was just asking.

Why do you think God invented 'lawyers'?

Legal mariage really has nothing to do with love...it's all about property, access, and power to make decisions regarding property and access for the person you are married to. If you have no interest in those matters, legal marriage is irrelevant to you...but if you do, this right is essential.

Where I live, 2/3 of legal marriages fail so why bother ?

I feel that without the paper, those involved are forced to work on their relationship on a regular basis. It stays alive. Because it depends on them, not paper, gov't or lawyers.

I am also childfree so for me it would be less complex. I can relate very much with Tam.
