Did you know that every moon has a different name. Its there on web searches if you care to look. different names in different cultures (Native American ones are interesting too)

But, over here we have Wolf Moon, Snow Moon, strugeon moon, beaver moon (See me smirk?), Hunter's moon.

And Blue moon, every two and a half years there is an extra full moon; the Blue Moon. Hence the expression.

That moon has its influences everywhere!

I love the way you meld the scientific with the poetic in this post. Facts intermingling with metaphors...empiricism rubbing shoulders with whimsy. Very compelling stuff.

Nice.

I had been following your blog , but alt seems to have dropped many of the blogs off my watch list. so I added it back again tonight.

Two songs, bot about the Moon are from two of my favorite bands:

Whole of the Moon by The Waterboys who I saw live last night.

And, Dela (I Think I Know Why The Dog Howl's At The Moon) by Johnny Clegg & Savuka

"One Big Sky Covers Us All Equally"
