Can you blame them for using a technique that appears to them to work?often their targets are as vapid and clueless as they are; very few knowledgeable, serious people are falling for that crap. it might seem annoying, but most of the serious people in this lifestyle are annoying, too.

I take your point, but I struggle with the ethos of some on this site (not you) where "just seeking kinky sex" (as part of a fulfilling relationship) is somehow seen as morally or socially inferior to being a "true" whatever it is (sub, dom, etc). It feels like alleged infidels being disowned by a religion because they don't believe hard enough or follow the right interpretation of the rules or dogma. But that's just me. I enjoy what I enjoy, and don't feel like I need to pass an exam to enjoy BDSM related play with a willing parner.
