can we do anything about stalkers and harassment?

There have been a number of posts lately about stalking incidents and harassing behavior. Is there anything we, as members of this site, can do to protect people from this?

foulmama has a recent posting about a stalker here: A special request for a reminder

tey_unchained has a recent posting about harassment here: Does ALT need a "SCARY TO DEAL WITH" network? and here: VERY Ticked Off!

DStigmatta9 has a recent posting here: [post 376139]

MistressEcho has posted her experience here: ~A LESSON FOR ALL~

These are not the only incidents. They are just the ones I’ve seen in the last couple of weeks. I know this has been an issue for YEARS. Isn’t there something that can be done to limit the number of victims these predators have access to on this site?

Leathertbird2 has begun a poll to try to convince Alt to take some action to curb these issues. Please take a moment to vote and/or post a comment.

Zee, I just hope we can get something done so fewer incidents happen. There are a lot of good ideas out there and lots of smart people here. Surely something can be done!

We must take precautions for ourselves too. Personal responsibility is a responsibility that cannot be sub-contracted. This doesn't mean that help from ALT in these matters shouldn't take place either. However, I cringe when I try to imagine how they might wreak havoc when they seek to do the right thing.

Long tie no see! I am from under my own rock and, wow. Nice to know, the longer you stay away, the less things change.

While I understand the desire ot have some feeling of protection, it is a fantasy to think that ALT has the bandwidth / capacity / inclination / wherewithal to police members real-time meetings.

The flip side of the situation is that a vengeful or spiteful person crying wolf can cause irreparable damage to an innocent person. Also, miscommunication can be misconstrued.

WHen situations become Out Of Hand, the police are (somewhat) capable of tracking the complaints, and that is what their stated purpose is. "Community" policing can easily become vigilantism, and that is a slippery damned slope.

But on a lighter note....Yay! I am so glad to see you still here!!

Echo, you got it and thank you!

Dreamer, I'm not trying to minimize the need for personal responsibility. However, I have seen, more than once, the same predator hitting many people new to this site. Unfortunately, the victims don't seem to find out what the predator is like until after they've met him.

MO!!!!! It's so fabulous to see you back!!!!! I agree that ALT can't police real-time meetings. But I would like to see some type of list put together to identify those who abuse the trust again and again. It's been posted about far too many times by Dominants and submissives. Yes, there could be abuses, but that is why I would like to see a committee of members involved in researching the complaints. Anyone added to the list should have proof, not just allegations, of improper behavior....

I've missed you, sweetie! I have been hoping you were doing OK....
