Every time I think of Pets guest posting for MistressEcho, ~ Men with Manners ~, a couple of thoughts begin running around in my mind
. Is part of the appeal of D/s brought about because of the manners, the ritual, the protocol that people see? Is it a yearning for a return to a time when courtesy was the norm rather than the exception? Is part of the appeal the urge to experience what they read in those wonderful trashy novels that have been so popular for years? I admit to reading just about everything Rosemary Rogers wrote in the 70s and 80s. The thought of being overpowered by some strong, handsome man titillated me tremendously. Was that really the beginning of my desire to submit? Theres a part of me that would love to know just how much society influences our needs and desires. Another part of my just shrugs and thinks, I am who I am. Do you think things like manners or the fantasies from reading actually draw people to D/s? Or are these just common experiences that are coincidental? |

Ladies, I am Humbled by your appreciation. Manners, Class, Respect, Dignity, Decorum.....you ALL are excellent role models. I certainly believe that honor and dignity are cornerstones of this alternative lifestyle. Trust, in this capacity, cannot exist in an environment devoid of mutual respect. I also believe that what I read and experienced in my youth, has lead me to be submissive. Environment awakens the ability, in my case. I also think that anyone who genuinely has interest in the lifestyle, is reassured by its higher standards of interaction. NET issues aside, the community is strong and filled with class. I think of ALTERNATIVE as alternative to normal. Normal is not MY goal in life! Thanks again, for mentioning me, and moreover, for justifying my blog existence. Pet

Aberfoyle, it IS a powerful draw, isn't it? Echo, that's one of my favorite things about blogging. I'll read something and there's that "click" in my mind. Things begin to make sense or lead me to questions to bring enlightenment. Thank you for your guest bloggers! Pet, so many of your postings have resonated for me. I love it when someone puts a piece out there that makes me think or question. Thank YOU for a piece that has stayed with me! Dreamer, it's interesting you feel that way. The commentors on my other blog also felt it was coincidental. It goes back to the nature vs. nurture argument. I'm not certain I've ever had that question answered to my satisfaction, either.

WW; I think these feelings are already in there. Latent perhaps, but there just the same. Books and such can *definitely* trigger all, or almost all of the "unleashing". I knew few submissive women who were not affected by Anne Rice and her novels. Or under her pseydonym, A. N. Roquelaure. I knew one woman who hated oral sex, until one day she saw the cover of a porno magazine, and things just *opened* for her in that regard. Presto!

MS, I have to wonder how painful it must be for someone who has those latent feelings and never receives that trigger. How horrible to never have that Presto! in one's life....
