Sir’s birthday is coming up soon and I’m at a loss. When I ask Him what He would like, He says things like, “dinner at McD’s” or other minimal activities.

I know He doesn’t like to have His birthday be a big deal. I get that! I really do! I’m not big on my birthday either, but I do want to do something nice for Him. When I’ve tried to explain WHY it’s important to me, He just shrugs it off and tells me to let it go.

I’m looking for ideas, here. Can any of you think of something that wouldn’t seem like I’m making a big deal about His birthday but would allow me to show Him how grateful I am to have Him in my life?

Simple, without contravening His control and something He would value and bring a smile. Not too tall an order here.

you do not offer much in the way of what he likes, so take one of these ideas and bend it to suit His likes:

Fulfill a dream (if practical) ...scuba course, intro to sky diving, a day fishing with several of His friends or family.

A simple video of you, reciting a poem or essay you've written on how He fills your life with pleasure.

A weekend away....a rented houseboat on the Hudson or a cabin near west Point....not too far from you, somewhere you can offer Him more relaxation or play options.

or simply a new toy...........

To learn is no easy task applying what one has learned is often harder

Pinioned, thank you! He is difficult to buy for, as He prefers to choose everything Himself. Clothing is not an option. He did give me an idea for Christmas and that was a $10 watch. Since I already bought that for Him, that's now out.

Let's see.... I've offered to take Him out for dinner since that didn't seem to be too big. He jokes about taking Him out to inexpensive restaurants, so I'm struggling to comply with that idea. I'd like to take Him out to a nice French restaurant or to my favorite sushi place.

The video is an idea.... Thank you!

It always means more to me that the date is remembered, and the rememberance is personalized.

(I basically wrote the same thing but more verbose, and ALT ate it!)

Dreamer, I know He's happy I remember the date.... And I hope to personalize it in a way HE remembers!

Write him a poem, or even a "letter" expressing your feelings.

Write it in longhand on beautiful stationary.

For newcomers and not so newcomers.
Arm yourself with knowledge
