Going green seems to be the catch phrase of the moment. In my own personal effort to go green I have started a container garden. Now, gardening is something Ive always wanted to do. Ive had some luck with flowers, but Ive also killed my fair share of plants. I did a lot of research on container gardens and decided I was ready to take the plunge. Sir and I went shopping and spent about $20 on pepper and tomato plants with some basil and lettuce seeds. I planted everything except the basil right away. So far, so good! I have a teensy little baby pepper on one plant and everything else is still alive! Yay me! This is the test before we get the new house built. Ive been asking for a garden and Sir has said I can have one. I figure I can handle it if I can get things to grown on my balcony. The difficult part is going to be deciding WHAT to grow! Im not going to have a lot of space and keep thinking of more things to add to it. Strawberries, cucumbers, cantelope, peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, asparagus (for Sir, of course!), carrots, oh, my! At least I have some time to plan it all out. And Im more confident I wont kill it all! |

I used to have a vegetable garden, it takes planning, but it is well worth the satisfaction when you make a salad with things you grew with your own hands..I kept a compost bin too, full of coffee grounds, egg shells,etc... Syllista, my mom can make ANYTHING grow! Why isn't that skill passed down to us? Elusive, I grew up with a huge garden, so I think that's why I want one so badly. I've been reading up about composting. Maybe I'll convince Sir to do that too! Dreamer, I may have to ask you for some tips! In fact, you and Elusive can come over when we're ready to start the big garden and help!

Good luck with it. I used to garden. Kids loved Radishes and cukes. I loved corn and green beans, and always put some onions, potatoes and carrots away in the root cellar known as my basement. Sounds like you're doing a great job!

Thank you, Nan! That little pepper is just getting bigger and bigger.... I also see some little flowers on both the tomato plants, so I'm hopeful! Yay! Fresh veggies coming soon!
