If you haven't read my first blog entry, please do. it does not exist on the alt.com site blog anymore, it was BANNED. no reason given, i suppose they "knew it when they saw it" and eradicated to spare you decent folks.

i digress, this will happen frequently.

This post is about language, its usage and its limitations.

I recommend that every dungeon contain a Thesaurus. If you can command language then you can command a mind. In "Bull Durham" Susan Sarandon has Tim Robbins (lightly) bound to the bed and at her mercy. What does she do? She reads to him. I thought that scene was so sexy, and of course, still do. Tim and Susan met on that film and remain partners today, coincidence? Oh, she also pitches to him and makes him catch. enough said.

If i found someone who thought my semicolon placement equally intriguing but not as enjoyable as where i position my semi-cock, I'd take him 24/7. Heavy NVAA, (noun, verb, adjective, adverb) yes, please. Humiliation, yep; happens each time you forget to spell check.

Capitalization. Please, do not for ME. If you are ee cummings or truly enjoy emulating him, then Upper and lower case as you see fit.

During the Marquis de Sade's time, a letter, written in ornate script drawn by quill and inked in blood, with inventive capitalization would stand as a tribute and sacrifice. Today, it's simply find, replace all, upper case toggle and unnecessary (for me).

Mistress, ma'am, lady, goddess, she-of-all-things-i desire, wholly shit. what a minefield you men have to navigate. pretend Princess Di visited my profile; minefield is clear. On occasion there is one title i enjoy, i'll never tell. it has to be uttered organically, then it's cool.

Now it's time to finish this entry with aplomb and i am spent. i went out too fast, and can't finish the lap. next entry's topic, should i attempt this again, is dominate vs dominant.

ps
i spell check and read over once. i rarely catch my own grammar errors, i type like i speak, stumbling over myself to catch my voice up to my thoughts.

my letter to alt.com on behalf of new members and/or confused members.

I posted this comment to alt.com blog after a frustrating evening of trying to understand features and point system. This morning i could not find my post or the blog because it is listed on the home page only, above fun stuff, "site support blog" Well, I'm starting my blog with this post and earning points while i do it.

this is what i posted on the obscure "site support blog."

I am a new member (9.14.07) and have some comments suggestions that may be useful. I'm also an interactive producer that has experience working for community sites, both free and subscription based.

(disclaimer: i may have overlooked a critical link that answers my questions, if so i apologize, but would recommend that the link is more visible or labeled "for our new member."

1. standard membership benefits are not clearly defined, i've learned that i can't access many features, and was not able to ascertain those that i could and at what point costs. the compare membership page isn't helpful; states limited profile review, with exceptions for new members with popular profiles. i seem to be able to view profiles, am i a popular member? if not then how many profiles could i access. would i need to use points to view profiles of people that wink or hot list you. if so, could there be a counter, saying you have 8 profiles left or viewing this profile will deduct 100 points from your account. what does email of up to 10 love matches mean...that alt.com emails me a list of capable members, how often, and can i email those people for free?

for example, i believe i am able to respond to an email without any point deduction - true? if i receive a wink, and want to view that person's profile, will i need to use points to do so? after buying 5000 points, i looked into the points history to understand why i was out 400 points after sending one emails (200 pts), point history, to my knowledge, does not have keep records of points spent by type - not by date or to whom.
i have 400 points taken removed from my account for sending an email, when i've only sent one. the others i replied to. how do i go about investigating the missing 200 points?

2. secondly, may i suggest new members be given sample of silver membership...5-7 days perhaps. I think alt.com has many, easy to use, communication and search features. Give the new person a chance to make friends, catalog their hot list and get familiar with your site.
once they become part of the community they will be inclined to join because they are vested in it. you can even erase their hotlists, friends, cataloged searches at then end of the trial period. the point being, hawking subscriptions by denying access is in my opinion, counter productive. it makes me wary to commit 3 months of dues to a site i know nothing about and could not try out. if you believe in alt.com goal of bringing like-minded people in proximity of one another, its members desire to find others like themselves and your sites features you have nothing to lose if you sell from its strengths.

if you are reluctant to offer a freebie, than how about a reduced rate for the first month (10.00) or making them pay for a month, then if they sign up for a subscription, waiving the first month's fee?

3. the upgrade subscription page is terribly intrusive to the user experience. its too long, take the entire page, and is a clear plea for money. my suggestion is that you use a smaller unit that say "this service/area/action is restricted to premium member. upgrade my account button, launches order form. no thank or X closes window and sends the user back to page prior to click. you might even tease the user by showing "profile" obscured with 80-90% opaque box, insures the user that there is more to see, and users won't be annoyed by long, credit card form that appears now.

4. i know that these items can't be changed overnight and must be agreed upon by management. however, in the meanwhile could you please post an easy to understand guide for us standard members. how many people need to view you to obtain a popularity upgrade. i'm able to view profiles of people that have not emailed, winked or hot-listed me, without using 100 points. why? under what circumstances can i send a free email? how many profiles am i allowed to view if i haven't been awarded an extra 50? if i view profiles of those that emailed, winked or hot listed me, am i charged? i have found partial answers to these questions, scattered throughout the site - welcome, help, my account. as a interactive producer i had a better chance than most users in cracking your site map, and i couldn't.

your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. i am anxious to become an active member after Standard membership and its point system is explained clearly and concisely.

thank you
