At Your Service: Top Marks! Or, Whose Mark Is This Anyway?
by Laura Antoniou

Almost any heterosexual in Western Culture will one day become familiar with – sometimes against their will – the arcane “rules” regarding “proper” marks of relationship progress. Take, for example, the engagement ring. According to the people who brainwash – er, educate the masses – on this little bauble,

Brilliant article.

Isn't all just about the accessories to some people?
But as mentioned, if you are a pervert, why not dress like
a pervert? Sigh...

lmao - The Cosmic Collar of Contemplation - I've *gotta*
get me one of those... This had me literally laughing at
my desk. Oh, and do masters wear the 'master' collar? Ha!
As I've said a number of times "You don't
need that collar for us to know who owns you." It's
a symbol, a reminder and it carries whatever importance
you put on it. Thanks for some great writing. Chris

Oh I almost lost my pepsi on my monitor reading this.

I love it. It is so darn funny how some can take things way
to seriously. What really matters is what you and anyone
you are with knows plain and simple.

Great article! It's so refreshing to hear such humor
interjected into the myriad b.s. "rules" all
to many people place upon this BDSM life.

Forgive me for being a raving fan, but i feel compelled to
compliment you as well on your "Marketplace"
series. i have read the whole series 2-3 times already,
and i still love every word you wrote and how you wrote them.
Thanks for putting those novels out there.

Hilarious - I love the humor through out the article. By
the way, I can't wait to read your Marketplace series.
Master has told me all about it and said that no other series
on BDSM comes close to its potency. Just thought I would
complement you on it.

LOL this is so true. I found the 'online collar'
paragraph to be a chuckle. This is a coo perspective on the
subject.

Laura. Thanks for the article. Being a newbie it is helpful
to find articles about such topics. I have been going out
to munches in the area as well as spending time in the Alt
NorCal Chat Room. What I am learning from others and my own
observations is that for every facet of the lifestyle,
everyone has there own set of definitions and expectations
based on their own experiences and desires. Whatever floats
your boat. That is the essence of what I take away from your
article.

I agree in essence. My only issue has to do with the engagement
ring. I paid the equivilent of 2 weeks pay, and found out
later that it was worth a whole hell of a lot more.

Great article. With us I just like the way collars look on
her. Although, now that I think about it, they will now be
called "The Ultimate Expression of Our Relationship
Status and Darn Handy to Fasten Things To".

interesting... i've borne several collars over the
years, from the Masters i've served. and not one of
them were actual physical items. they were made of my affection,
devotion and respect for those i served, and i wore them
proudly, for all to see, 24/7. and i still do.

in service til death, in pain and pleasure,

blessed be and be well :)

and thank you :)

i'll give her one to match..

That was awesome. I love the humor
in it all. I think far too many people take BDSM so seriously
they forget the fun in it, and that it's okay to laugh.
I do agree on there are to many people out there wanting to
name a collar or hop into one so quickly. Hence what I call
the ever famous velcro collar! At any rate that was a great
read and thank you!

I totally agree with the silliness of purple collars. How
ridiculous! Of course, I'm sure that you'll agree
that the time-honoured pink and green collars of true olde-guardeness
are a far more legitimate way of letting people know of the
degree of a submissive's true slave heart!

Great article and fun to read. Maybe some people do read
too much into the meaning of a collar.

I personally wear a steel eternity collar. Just like a ring
it is a sign of commitment between Master and I.

Mind you I like the thought of a purple collar, my favorite
colour, not sure it would look right when I am at work though.

The problem with your article is that it reeks of disrespect
to those who are from the old school where the lifestyle
is taken a bit more seriously. though you are doing it very
tongue in cheek it is really disrespectful. Each person does what he or she wishes in this world but to
those who are from the Old Guard their is honour and it should
be respected.

If you wish respect then give it. It is not a matter of who
is right or wrong it is a matter of what is comfortable to
you and yours.

i also suggest to look into why a ring is important and the
definition of what it stands for . There is some beauty in
it just as with the Ceremony of the Roses. Thoughts do go
into things until commercialism gets inot it .. So the next time you wish to criticize something find out
where the information originated from.

Nice. Most of this would never have even crossed my mind.
